indicated a certain hubris on part of Google which seemed certain that the Pixel 6 Pro would be a worthy competitor to flagships Android phones from Samsung and others. This year, Google did the same with the 2022 Pixel 7 series so we can only deduce that it intends to place enough new features to warrant an upgrade.
Google Pixel 7 Pro vs Pixel 6 Pro design and display quality
- 6.7″ Pixel 6 Pro comes in Cloudy White, Sorta Sunny, and Stormy Black two-tone body colors.
- Pixel 7 Pro will come in black, white, and gray colors.
Google is shaking it up with the camera strip design of the Pixel 7 Pro by making the distinction between the camera kits and the background more visible. On the Pixel 6 Pro one can hardly tell where the camera strip begins and the lenses end unless you are looking closely.
Google also waxed poetic over how the edges blend more seamlessly with the frame or some such, meaning that we would see refinements in the design, but no drastic changes compared to the 6 Pro besides the camera strip across the phone’s rear.
Lending further credence to that theory is the fact that Google didn’t show the Pixel 7 Pro from the front, so probably it will stay largely the same in terms of display – 6.7″ punch-hole panel with 1440p resolution and 120Hz dynamic refresh – as the Pixel 6 Pro.
That’s actually a good thing, as we expect nothing short of display calibration greatness from Google, if the Pixel 6 and Pixel 5 series are any indication. Google’s phone screens consistently score the top places in our best phone displays roundup as they seem to undergo per-unit calibration in the factory for the ultimate in color credibility.
The other design difference is that one of the Pixel 6 Pro colors – Sorta Sunny – has given way to a more classy graphite color, but by the time Google lands the Pixel 7 Pro it may have changed its mind on the colors compared to what’s in the teaser.

Besides the new contrasting camera strip design, there may not be drastic changes in that area as far as the hardware is concerned. The Pixel 6 features a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide unit, while the Pro also has a third 48MP telephoto unit with 4x optical zoom.
Thus, whatever picture quality improvements from the Google Pixel 6 Pro to the Pixel 7 Pro, will have to come from the software and the new image processing abilities that Google’s second generation Tensor 2 chipset will bring to the table. We’ve no doubt that there will be upgrades to the new camera features that Google introduced with the 6 series, too, such as the Magic Eraser or the Motion Blur functions.
In fact, Google already announced and improvement to the Magic Eraser option that allows you to change the color of undesired objects in the frame rather than just deleting them and that was for the Pixel 6a, so the 7 series won’t be an exception.
Google Pixel 7 Pro vs Galaxy 6 Pro performance and software
As for the Pixel 7 Pro, Google didn’t go into details what will the Tensor 2 upgrades include, but we’d wager to guess it will be taped out on the 4nm/5nm processor nodes and will be improved in the AI and image processing algorithm departments, allowing for exclusive 7 Pro features, just like the Pixel 6 Pro features include Speech Recognition and Live Translate, for instance, all possible like never before thanks to the Tensor processor.
When it comes to interface, by the time the Pixel 7 Pro hits the shelves, the phones will be on Android 13 with the fastest updates out there and the flat, colorful Material You design, There is no denying Google’s stock Android speed and simplicity, not to mention the guaranteed updates range. The stock Android with flat interface needs much less operating memory to run then other Android overlays, so the Pixel 7 Pro memory will likely top out at 12GB RAM and a 512GB storage option.
Google Pixel 7 Pro vs Google Pixel 6 Pro battery life and charging speeds
Both phones will probably share a battery as the Pixel 6 Pro flaunts a 5000mAh unit that is unlikely to require a significant upgrade any time soon. Google is famous for optimizing the stock Android software on its Pixel line, though, plus the 7 Pro will be powered by Google’s frugal second edition of the Tensor in-house processor.
The team from Mountain View finally has all the pieces of the iPhone puzzle when it comes to a perfect possibility for a software/hardware synchronicity that delivers battery life wonders commensurate with the best out there, and the Pixel 7 Pro may even deliver battery life that is slightly better than what we clocked on the 6 Pro and these are some great endurance numbers already.

Google Pixel 7 Pro or Google Pixel 6 Pro, which one to buy?
Whenever a new phone edition comes out, there is the urge to get the new guy with the new goods which would work in favor of buying the Pixel 7 Pro. If it keeps the same camera set from its predecessor, though, and only offers the new Tensor 2 processor with an updated camera strip design, it might not be worth to go for the novel this time around, especially if the Pixel 6 Pro drops from its $899 starting price.
With Google, however, there is another reason to upgrade than hardware and software prowess. The early Pixel 6 Pro was rather buggy in both departments and Google usually irons out the kinks in the second edition of a new design, so we’ll keep our ears to the ground if that will indeed be the case to prefer the Pixel 7 Pro before its predecessor, even if it falls in price in the meantime.
