Several different mobile phone networks in the UK have announced that the much-anticipated Sony Xperia S will work on their systems. These networks include not just O2 and Orange but also T-Mobile and Three.
The Sony Xperia S will run on the Android Gingerbread interface but will be fully upgradeable to the newest Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich, sometime during the latter half of 2012. While the delay may disappoint some consumers, the phone's specifications are unlikely to. The Xperia S will come with a high definition touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. The screen will boast a measurement of 4.3 inches, generous among smartphones, which will permit a quality viewing experience when users load high definition video movies to watch.
An integrated 12-megapixel camera means that users can also record their own videos in HD if they wish, with a resolution of 1080 pixels. The second camera allows for video recording at 720 pixels, still in HD format.
Sony has indicated that it is positioning the Xperia S to compete against phones manufactured by rivals Samsung and HTC. Users got a first look at it recently at the Las Vegas CES – Consumer Electronic Show – where a variety of cutting edge devices were on display.
