In the UK in particular, the Nokia Lumia series is outselling Symbian phones from the same manufacturer. The Nokia Lumia smartphone series uses the Windows Phone OS.

Android LogoThe Mobile World Congress, which took place in Barcelona, Spain, has made clear some emerging trends in the quickly evolving mobile phone environment. One of the most significant is the question of Android. While it is true that most major manufacturers do produce mobile phones that run on this popular OS from Google, it was clear at the MWC that other platforms may soon be gaining ground. Windows Phone 8, the newest version from Microsoft, will be the native OS on several major new phones coming out from manufacturers such as Nokia.

nokia logoNokia has just launched a new series of smartphones but already mobile phone networks in the UK are urging the Finnish company to lower the prices set on them. The Lumia 800, launched late in 2011 and promoted as a new ‘flagship’ handset for Nokia, had its price set at a level that would allow it to compete with other advanced smartphones on the market, such as those available from Samsung.

Three Network to Support the Lumia 710 Phone

nokia logoIn a surprise announcement, the smallest of the major UK mobile phone networks, Three, has released the news that its network will support the Lumia 710 phone, which is manufactured by Finnish company Nokia and runs on the Windows Phone 7 OS. Three is the first such network to make such an announcement. Vodafone and O2 users interested in the Lumia 710 are still waiting for information to be made public regarding units of that phone that will work on those networks.

Conor uses it to describe consumer and retailer attitudes toward the constant stream of products emanating from Apple, and applies it particularly to the last OS for Apple devices.

nokia logoAccording to recent reports, the much-anticipated Nokia Lumia 710 mobile phone will be available in the United Kingdom early in the New Year. The first week of January should see the phone go up for sale, with early reports indicating that the target date for the official launch may be 6th January. However, other news reports indicate that this date may change. Nokia has yet to issue an official statement about the exact date upon which the Nokia Lumia 710 will become available to UK consumers.

The move is part of a major restructuring effort that also involves shedding approximately 4,000 jobs around the world. Nokia staff were informed of the company's relocation plans last week.
