Porting Your Mobile Number to a New Network
If you've already got a mobile phone and are considering moving to another network you'll no doubt want to keep your existing mobile phone number. The technical term for moving a number is "number porting" and it's very quick and easy - in essense the procedure is
- Contact your current network and ask for a Porting Authorisation Code (PAC) - there's no charge for this
- Order your new mobile phone through MyMobileDeal.com
- Your new mobile will arrive with a temporary number
- Contact your new network and give them the PAC code and your number will move to your new mobile
The only exception is if you're moving to Vodafone, in this case you need to get your PAC from your current network before ordering your new mobile.
Your current network is obliged to give you a PAC provided you've completed your contract (ie been with them for the minimum number of months on your contract) and you don't owe them any money.
How long does it take to port my number?
Once you ask your network for a PAC they're obliged to give it to you within a few days, although some networks will give it to you there and then. You can then order your mobile and in most cases this will arrive the next day, at this stage give the PAC to your new network and your number transfer will be completed in around two working days. Your PAC is only valid for 30 days - if you don't use it within that time it will expire.
Can I port a pay as you go number to a contract?
Yes. The process is exactly the same as above. Please try to use up your existing payg credit first as this will be usually be lost when your number is transferred.
Can I transfer my number to the same network?
No. If you want to take out a new contract with the same network this would be classed as an upgrade - contact your existing network and they'll be happy to help you upgrade your mobile.
